Take the streetcar over to the pier and the ferry to Miyajima (shrine island) known as the sacred island. Itsukushima Shrine is famous because of the large red wooden torii (gate), which stands in the ocean during high tide. Miyajima has been regarded as one of the "Three Most Beautiful Spots" of Japan, and as a part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park.
