Nagasaki is said to be the one of the most rewarding and exotic places to visit in Japan. Its charm probably comes from the good climate, superb landscape and a history unlike any other city in Japan. A man-made fan shaped island, Dejima was originally built to isolate Portuguese traders and prevent the spread of Christianity. But during the era of national isolation, the Dutch East India Company was permitted entrance and in 1856 when the isolation ended it also ended Dejimafs role to Japan. At that time sugar was the main commodity purchased through the Dutch Company. In the city of Nagasaki, you can sense the exotic atmosphere in the streets and building structure. A wide variety of original food recipes were created from the influence of the rich European and Chinese culture and to this day they are well preserved. Many other attractions can be enjoyed such as the feudal castles, samurai houses, Western villas, volcanic mountain, hot springs and beautiful beaches. Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park modeled on a Dutch village and Glover Garden offers panoramic view of Nagasaki. The Atomic Bomb Nagasaki Museum is also another visiting site. It covers the history of this event in the accessible form of a story. It begins with the disastrous scene of the attack and includes the events leading up to the dropping of the atomic bomb and the reconstruction of Nagasaki up to the present day.
